Nigeria distributes 100,800 bags of fertiliser to support farmers
The plan involves deploying more than 1,800 agricultural advisers across the country to provide technical support and advice in this area
The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) has begun distributing 100,800 bags of fertiliser to 25,200 smallholder farmers in the states of Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi and Jigawa as part of the revamped Farm Input Support Programme (FISP) in Nigeria, according to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a partner of TV BRICS.
This was announced by NADF Executive Secretary Mohammed Ibrahim, who explained that each beneficiary farmer will receive four fully subsidised bags of fertiliser, whilst each participating state will receive 20,160 bags for distribution amongst 5,040 producers.
The beneficiaries were identified through the state authorities using a transparent and targeted selection process.
This initiative in the north-west forms part of a wider national programme covering 128,930 smallholder farmers and providing a total of 515,720 bags of fertiliser.
In addition, the NADF plans to deploy over 1,800 agricultural extension officers across the country to provide technical support and advise farmers on best agricultural practices, with the aim of reducing production costs, improving access to quality resources and increasing food production in line with the revitalisation programme proposed by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.
Ibrahim emphasised that these measures reflect the federal government’s commitment to boosting agricultural productivity, creating jobs and strengthening food security across the country.
