Prime Ministers of India and Malaysia discuss trade, investment, and regional cooperation
Officials highlight deeper ties in technology and education, including proposed IIT campus in Malaysia
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi met on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil, focusing on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, and technology. This is reported by BERNAMA News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
In a posting on a social media platform, Modi said they reviewed the progress of bilateral relations, including developments since Anwar’s visit to India last year. “Bilateral ties are growing strongly in futuristic sectors like IT, renewable energy and infrastructure. We also discussed how to improve investment and trade relations between our nations,” Modi said.
Anwar, in a statement following the meeting, noted the potential for expanding strategic cooperation between the two countries.
Malaysian Prime Minister welcomed Indian companies’ interest in investing in future-oriented sectors in Malaysia such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and aerospace. He also highlighted the shared commitment to enhance people-to-people ties through culture, tourism, and education, including the proposal to establish an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in Malaysia.
Anwar further expressed Malaysia’s support for strengthening ASEAN–India relations, in line with the upcoming ASEAN–India Summit in October.
