Russia and Malaysia increase trade in 2025
In the first quarter of 2025, the trade turnover between Russia and Malaysia increased by almost 63% compared to the same period in 2024
Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Aleksey Overchuk held a meeting with Fadillah bin Yusuf, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Minister of Energy Transition and Water Resources Transformation, dedicated to the expansion of bilateral trade and economic partnership. This is reported by the official website of the Russian Government.
The meeting held at the Government House confirmed the desire of both countries to fully realise the potential of cooperation in key sectors such as industry, energy, transport infrastructure, agro-industrial complex, and digital economy.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the positive dynamics of mutual trade. According to the Federal Customs Service of Russia, in the first quarter of 2025, the trade turnover between Russia and Malaysia increased by almost 63 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Special attention was paid to the development of humanitarian ties. Cooperation agreements between universities of the two countries are being implemented. In addition, the countries expressed interest in developing tourist exchange, which is facilitated by the inclusion of Malaysia in the list of countries whose citizens have access to a single electronic visa for business, tourism, scientific, cultural, and sports trips.
During the talks, the importance of joint initiatives in the field of culture and art to strengthen mutual understanding between the peoples of Russia and Malaysia was also emphasised.
