Saudi Arabia launches comprehensive media glossary to standardise Arabic terminology

The King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language (KSGAAL), in partnership with the Ministry of Media, has launched a detailed media glossary aimed at standardising Arabic terminology in the media sector, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The initiative aims to provide a reliable source of information for researchers, journalists and media professionals to enhance research in traditional and digital media and related fields.

Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Washmi, Secretary-General of KSGAAL, emphasised the importance of creating digital dictionaries to support research and the development of local media production, both individual and institutional. 

He noted that these efforts aim to create a centralised database that offers accurate resources for researchers and experts, as well as digital linguistic data for developers and programmers in various technical applications.

Al-Washmi also mentioned the academy's previous successes in creating specialised dictionaries in collaboration with various government bodies.

The glossary includes about 800 traditional media terms, including print journalism, radio and television, as well as digital media, social media, live streaming, podcasts, online journalism, digital marketing and new media concepts.

Each entry includes the Arabic equivalent, grammatical category, meaning and English translation to ensure a full understanding of the terminology.
