Clean energy drives Brazil's record power expansion in 2025

Brazil is expanding its electricity grids thanks to the introduction of solar power plants, the country's total capacity is 215,576.6 MW

In November, Brazil commissioned solar power plants, expanding its electricity grid. Brazil's National Electric Energy Agency keeps track of the expansion of electricity production. Ten power plants with a total capacity of 185.22 MW confirmed the continuous growth of solar energy in the country, reports Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

From January to November, the installed capacity of Brazil's power plants increased by 6,751.03 MW. In 17 states, 118 new power plants were commissioned during 2025: 53 photovoltaic solar power plants, 13 thermal power plants, 37 wind farms, 11 small hydroelectric power plants, and 2 hydroelectric power plants with different capacities.

The source says Rio de Janeiro became the leader in terms of installed capacity growth with 1,672.60 MW, followed by Minas Gerais (1,214.75 MW) and Bahia (1,011.70 MW).

According to data from the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency, the country's total controlled capacity reached 215,576.6 MW. At the same time, 84.45 per cent comes from renewable sources. This confirms that clean technologies play a key role in the national energy sector.

The collection of data on centralised electricity supply provides visualisation of data by region, period, source type and construction stage. Experts claimed, for more accurate monitoring of the industry, the information is updated monthly based on the results of on-site inspections of power plants and data provided by companies.
