Digital economy named as one of the main vectors of co-operation between Russia and India
From 17 to 19 January 2024, a delegation of the Moscow City Government took part in the Smart Cities India Expo in New Delhi for the first time.
Sergey Cheremin, Minister of the Moscow City Government and Chairman of the Board of the Business Council for Cooperation with India, spoke at the opening of the exhibition and participated in a number of sessions within the Smart Cities India Expo business programme.
In his welcome address, the Minister noted the long history of successful co-operation between India and Russia and also highlighted promising areas of bilateral partnership.
"We are united by the common goal of building the most modern infrastructure, creating a safe and comfortable urban environment. One of the most promising areas of our co-operation is undoubtedly information technology and digital economy. India and Russia are striving to become leaders in this field, and joining forces can create a synergistic effect," Cheremin said.
During the meetings at the exhibition, issues related to intensifying bilateral cooperation in urban development, urban planning, introduction of digital technologies in urban management, education, healthcare, economic sphere, as well as cooperation in the field of renovation and housing and communal services were discussed. The participants of the meetings discussed the possibilities of holding joint Moscow-India cultural, humanitarian and business events in 2024.
At the exhibition exposition of the City of Moscow, the partners from India were presented with information and high-tech solutions of the Russian capital, as well as successful experience in the implementation of the Smart City project, including an intelligent transport system, online provision of public services, the Moscow e-School platform and the use of artificial intelligence.
In his speech "Moscow – a smart and sustainable city" Cheremin noted that today the Russian capital is one of the few cities in the world that has almost all the tools for the efficient use of resources and improving the quality of life of citizens while maintaining an optimal level of environmental impact. The Minister also emphasised that Moscow continues to achieve and maintain success in various areas of development, demonstrating positive economic growth and trends.
He also participated in the inaugural ceremony of Fintech India Innovation Awards. The financial technology awards were presented to Indian companies in the categories of Best Company of the Year, Leader of the Year, Digitalisation Leader, Best Startup, Best Application of AI Technology, and Financial Inclusion.
