Heihe strengthens China–Russia medical cooperation through traditional Chinese medicine
China's hospitals to provide tailored services to Russian-speaking patients
In response to increasing demand, China's hospitals established an International Medical Department in 2024, designed to provide tailored services to Russian-speaking patients. This initiative includes Russian-language training for staff, multilingual materials, and one-on-one interpretation to ensure accessible and effective care.
A hospital in Heihe, Northeast China, is deepening China–Russia cross-border medical cooperation through traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), offering a growing range of treatments and services to Russian visitors seeking wellness therapies rooted in ancient practices. This is reported by Global Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
The hospital has also organised outreach programmes in Russia, including a free TCM clinic in Blagoveshchensk, where over 100 people received consultations and witnessed demonstrations of guasha, moxibustion, and ear acupressure. Additionally, a TCM experience centre was recently launched in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk with Chinese staff offering hands-on treatments such as tuina massage.
These programmes are part of a broader effort to promote TCM diplomacy and deepen practical cooperation under the China–Russia regional partnership, supported by streamlined border procedures and local government initiatives.
According to experts, as traditional Chinese medicine gains global recognition, Heihe is emerging as a key node in the Belt and Road Initiative’s health cooperation network.
