India plans to send humanoid robot into space

It will test spacecraft systems

India is preparing for an important stage in space exploration in December 2025, the country plans to send a humanoid robot named Vyommitra into space. This was announced by the Head of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO),  V Narayanan, as reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.

It is noted that the move will be part of the preparations for the first manned Gaganyaan mission. It is learnt that ISRO will conduct three unmanned missions, including one involving a humanoid robot, before sending astronauts.

It will test the spacecraft systems, monitor module parameters and ensure the safety of the mission.

"If it's successful, then two uncrewed missions will be launched next year. After all the tests in March 2027, as PM Modi said, Gaganyan Mission will be launched," said Narayanan.

The name of the robot Vyommitra is derived from two Sanskrit words: Vyoma – "space" and Mitra – "friend".
