Indonesia plans to produce more than 300 CT scanners by 2027

This is expected to reduce healthcare costs and expand public access to advanced diagnostic methods

The Indonesian Ministry of Health has set a target of producing 306 computed tomography (CT) machines by 2027. This was reported by the Antara News.

According to Lucia Rizka Andalusia, Director general of pharmaceuticals and medical devices at the Health Ministry, many citizens still do not have access to modern diagnostic technologies, including CT scanners.

It is noted that Indonesia's first production line for CT scanners was launched in Bogor, West Java province. Andalusia emphasised that the manufacture of such devices is a technologically complex task.

This is expected to reduce healthcare costs and expand the population's access to advanced diagnostic methods.

The Indonesian Ministry of Health is focusing on localising the production of ten types of medical equipment. Seven of these are classified as medium-tech and can be manufactured domestically. The other three – CT, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and PET scanners – require more advanced technological solutions.

Andalusia emphasised that the government is counting on the further development of the medical technology industry with the participation of the Ministry of Industry and the Nuclear Energy Supervisory Agency. Particular attention will be paid to the implementation of policies to increase the share of local components in production.

She expressed hope that the production of CT scanners will stimulate further innovation in the field of medical equipment and strengthen the national healthcare system.
