Indonesia proposes joint production of historical films with Uzbekistan
The parties see cinema as a tool of cultural diplomacy and aim to develop tourism linked to religious heritage
Indonesia has invited Uzbekistan to jointly produce films about history and culture. This was stated by Indonesia’s Minister of Culture Fadli Zon at a meeting with Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Indonesia Oybek Eshonov and the Governor of Samarkand Adiz Boboev, reports ANTARA.
“We strongly support collaboration, especially in historical and cultural films. Indonesia’s film industry is growing rapidly, with 87 million viewers and a 67 percent market share,” the Minister Fadli Zon said.
He noted that cinema could become a key instrument of cultural diplomacy between the two countries, helping to strengthen mutual understanding through shared narratives.
A number of initiatives to strengthen cultural ties are currently being implemented, including residency programmes for artists, students and cultural researchers from both countries.
Fadli Zon also proposed exploring opportunities for cooperation in the field of historical tourism linked to other monuments in Uzbekistan, which could attract Indonesian travellers.
In turn, Adiz Boboev stated that Samarkand intends to continue developing cultural diplomacy between the countries. Both sides expressed their readiness to expand cooperation in the creative sectors.
