Iran to fully meet insulin demand domestically within two years
Officials launch local production of insulin and plasma to strengthen national economy
Iran will be able to supply all of its insulin needs through domestic production within the next two years, following the launch of new manufacturing lines for insulin and plasma. This is reported by IRNA, a partner of TV BRICS.
The announcement was made by Mostafa Ghanei, Secretary of the Biotechnology Development Office of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, during a briefing on achievements in healthcare and medical equipment.
Ghanei noted that Iran currently spends over US$400 million annually on plasma imports, while insulin purchases abroad also represent a significant financial outflow. With the completion of the new production infrastructure, he said, the country will be capable of meeting its entire demand locally.
Ghanei also highlighted Iran’s leading role in biotechnology, stating that it holds the top position in the region and ranks fifth in Asia for biopharmaceutical production.
