MGIMO and TV BRICS to cooperate to strengthen international relations and promote Russian education

Focus will be placed on promoting the Russian language abroad and enhancing interaction between professional and expert communities

MGIMO and the TV BRICS International Media Network will join efforts to promote the opportunities of Russian education abroad and to strengthen international relations. The corresponding cooperation agreement was signed by MGIMO Rector, Academician Anatoly Torkunov, and Ivan Polyakov, Chairman of TV BRICS.

The partners plan to implement joint information projects, promote the results of scientific research and educational and cultural-educational programmes of MGIMO, hold academic conferences, and enhance interaction between professional and expert communities. Particular attention will be paid to promoting the Russian language and Russian education abroad. The joint work of the university and TV BRICS is aimed at improving international relations and strengthening the foreign policy positions of Russia and other BRICS member and partner countries.

"MGIMO traditionally pays great attention to cooperation with BRICS+ countries, and we have been maintaining our partnership with TV BRICS for several years. I am confident that the signing of this agreement will give new impetus to the development of joint projects aimed at forming an objective perception of Russia and our BRICS partners in the global media space, as well as open additional opportunities for MGIMO students and faculty to realise their initiatives on the international stage"
Anatoly Torkunov

TV BRICS Chairman Ivan Polyakov noted that today the media network partners with more than 30 major institutions in Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa, and Iran in the field of science and higher education, including members of the BRICS Network University, as well as the Indian Association of Russian Language and Literature Teachers, the Group for International Cooperation of Brazilian Universities, the Ministry of Education of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and the Ministries of Higher Education and Education of Cuba.

TV BRICS supports many events organised under the auspices of universities. For example, in 2024 and 2025, the media network serves as co-organiser and international media partner of the BRICS Countries Culture and Traditions Festival for schoolchildren, which takes place at MGIMO.

Within the framework of the educational and awareness project “Modern Russian”, implemented by TV BRICS, extensive work is being carried out to promote the Russian language abroad. Together with major universities of the BRICS countries, linguistic and cultural teleconferences are regularly organised to familiarise young people with Russian culture and the opportunities of Russian education. Overall, the information resources and consulting services of the “Modern Russian” project are used in more than 150 countries worldwide.

The Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (MGIMO) is one of Russia’s leading universities, possessing unique international expertise. It offers 115 bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in 20 fields of study. MGIMO is a world leader in the number of foreign languages taught: currently, 56 languages are studied at the university, more than half of which are Eastern languages. MGIMO hosts 14 research centres and programmes and publishes 16 academic journals. In 2020, the university became part of a world-class Research Centre in the field of humanities and social sciences. Since 2021, it has been a participant in the state programme Priority 2030. MGIMO is an active member of the Association of Global Universities and the Association of Leading Universities of Russia.
