Partitura competition to bring together best young composers in Russia

The winners' works will be recorded and sent to music libraries across the country

On 20 May, applications for participation in the III All-Russian Competition for Young Composers "Partitura" closed. Its main objective is to discover new names in academic classical music, to support talented people under the age of 35, and to update the repertoires of musical ensembles with works by young compatriots. TV BRICS provides information support for the event.

This year, the Organising Committee received a record number of applications from 80 regions of Russia and neighbouring countries – about 1000. On 22 May, the jury of the competition will sum up the results of the first stage – the reception of applications. The expert group will select 5 best works from each nomination.

In September-October 2024, the winners will be selected from 40 laureates of the competition in 8 nominations. The selection will take place in the format of open concert readings.

A gala concert will be held on 26 November 2024 at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, where the Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra will perform works by the winners of the "Partitura".

Among the competition's nominations:

  • "Symphonic work of large form";

  • "Symphonic work of small form";

  • "Ballet Music";

  • "Opera Music";

  • "Film Music";

  • "Work for one or more instruments/voices with orchestra";

  • "Variety and symphonic work, operetta music and musical";

  • "Choral Music."

The winners will also be awarded cash prizes of 200,000 roubles (US$2,200). Their works will be recorded at a recording studio and sent to music libraries and educational institutions across the country.

The jury of the competition also includes Chairman of the Council of the Russian Composers' Union, Alexander Tchaikovsky, Rector of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, Alexander Sokolov, renowned Russian composers and musicians Vladimir Fedoseyev, Alexey Rybnikov, Yury Poteyenko, head of the Film Music Association of the Russian Music Union, Ivan Burlyaev, Artistic Director of the TV BRICS Orchestra, Mikhail Golikov, Chinese composer, Zuo Zhenguan, artistic director of the Moscow Regional Philharmonic, Maxim Dunayevsky and others.

"It is a huge honour for me to be part of the jury of the large-scale and authoritative ‘Partitura’ competition for young composers. The unprecedented number of applications for participation speaks volumes about the prestige of this creative competition. I believe that it should be expanded to an international format. I hope that ‘Partitura’ will not only discover talented works and new names, but also promote the development of young composers"
