Representative of Turkey's ruling party claims that country thinks about joining BRICS
Earlier, the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his desire to join the group
Turkish authorities decide to join BRICS. This was stated by the representative of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party, Omer Celik, whose words are quoted by Hurriyet.
“President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had previously expressed Türkiye’s desire to join BRICS. If there is a concrete development – a decision or evaluation by BRICS on membership – we will announce it,” the party spokesman said during a press conference.
He added that the process of rapprochement with the union is underway.
Earlier, Yury Ushakov, Russian presidential foreign policy aide, said that Recep Tayyip Erdogan had accepted an invitation to participate in the BRICS summit to be held in Kazan on October 22-24, 2024.
Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov also noted the Turkish side's interest in joining BRICS.
Currently, the union includes 10 states: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iran, the UAE, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa.
