Vietnam starts construction of US$60.7 million waste-to-energy plant
The project is seen as an important step in the development of the region’s environmental infrastructure and the transition to a circular economy model
Construction has begun on a waste-to-energy plant in the Vietnamese province of Gia Lai. This was reported by Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.
The total investment in the project amounts to approximately US$60.7 million. The new complex will cover an area of around 10 hectares and will be capable of processing up to 800 tonnes of waste per day. The expected electricity generation capacity will be 15 MW.
There are also plans to process ash and slag to extract metals and produce building materials.
The plant is scheduled to commence operations in 2028. It is expected that its operation will reduce the burden on landfill sites, cut greenhouse gas emissions and help to use resources, including land, more efficiently.
The treatment of emissions generated during waste incineration and of wastewater will comply with the strict environmental standards of Vietnam and other countries.
