Vietnam to introduce biofuels nationwide from June 2026

Transition expected to boost sustainable development and reduce emissions

Transition expected to boost sustainable development and reduce emissions

Vietnam will officially begin the nationwide use of E5 and E10 biofuels on 1 June 2026, following a government-approved roadmap developed over several years. The transition is part of the country’s efforts to promote sustainable development and environmental protection. This is reported by Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.

According to officials, fuel suppliers have largely completed preparations related to infrastructure, storage and distribution, which are expected to ensure stable supply and quality when biofuels are rolled out nationwide.

At the same time, authorities noted the need to further improve technical standards and regulations governing the petroleum sector, particularly those related to storage facilities and infrastructure.

The government emphasised that expanding the use of biofuels will help reduce emissions, support the development of the domestic biofuel industry, create jobs and contribute to socio-economic growth.

With coordinated efforts in policy, infrastructure and market regulation, the transition to E5 and E10 fuels from June 2026 is expected to become a major step in transforming Vietnam’s fuel sector and advancing its environmental objectives.
