Brazil set to re-enter world’s top 10 economies in 2026 as growth outpaces major markets

Brazil is projected to return to the ranks of the world’s ten largest economies in 2026, according to International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts, as reported by Toda Palavra, a TV BRICS partner.

The latest projections indicate that Brazil is poised to reclaim 10th place in the global economic ranking, driven by stronger-than-expected growth, expanding investment and resilient domestic demand. The outlook follows robust economic performance in the first quarter of 2026, when Brazil’s gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 1.1 per cent compared with the previous quarter, exceeding market expectations and placing the country among the fastest-growing major economies worldwide.

According to IMF estimates, Brazil’s economy is expected to reach approximately US$2.64 trillion in current prices in 2026, positioning it just behind Russia and ahead of several other major economies. Analysts note that the gap between Brazil and Russia remains narrow, suggesting that further economic expansion could enable Brazil to climb even higher in the global ranking over the coming years.

The country’s economic recovery is being supported by growth in the services sector, renewed investment activity and continued expansion across key areas of the domestic economy.

Experts note that the country's demographic scale, abundant natural resources and expanding innovation ecosystem continue to provide long-term advantages. These strengths are expected to support future growth and reinforce Brazil’s influence within the evolving global economic order.
