The country is now on track to surpass 8 million visitors by the end of 2025
Brazil has achieved international tourism growth, welcoming 6.52 million foreign visitors between January and August 2025. According to the United Nations Tourism Organisation, this represents a 46.6 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2024 and marks the highest number of arrivals ever recorded in the first eight months of the year.
The figure means Brazil has already reached 94.6 per cent of its annual target of 6.9 million international arrivals set under the National Tourism Plan 2024–2027. Analysts note that the country is now on track to surpass 8 million visitors by the end of 2025, consolidating its position as a Latin American tourism leader.
August saw a 37.8 per cent increase, surpassing the 537,000 arrivals recorded during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This is reported by the official website of Brazil's Ministry of Tourism.
Argentina remained the largest source of international arrivals with more than 2.6 million tourists in the first eight months of 2025. Chile ranks second with 539,000 tourists. The highest number of foreign tourists was recorded in Sao Paulo, more than 1.8 million, followed by Rio de Janeiro with 1.4 million and Rio Grande do Sul with 1.2 million.
The Ministry of Tourism emphasised that the record number of foreign tourists reflects the success of strategies to expand air travel, diversify tourist experiences and strengthen Brazil's global advertising.
