China Cultural Centre in Moscow celebrates Chinese New Year

The China Cultural Centre (CCC) in the Russian capital hosted a gala evening dedicated to the Chinese New Year, one of the main events of Eastern culture. The guests of the event were able to get acquainted with the traditions and art of China.

The programme of the evening included many bright events. Among them was an exhibition of the best works of the participants of the Grand Prize of the Ambassador's "Russian Amateurs of the Chinese Painting Contest – 2024". The guests also attended a master class in calligraphy, plunged into the subtleties of the tea ceremony and got acquainted with the presentation of winter tourism entitled "Hello, China! Travelling on Ice and Snow".

In addition, an award ceremony was held for the winners of the "Wind from China" video contest organised in honour of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China. Evgeniya Tolstoguzova, Head of the East Asia and Africa Division of TV BRICS International Cooperation Department, acted as a jury member. Over 130 entries were received from all over Russia.

The ceremony was attended by Plenipotentiary Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Russia Zhang Wei, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Russia and Director of the CCC Feng Litao, First Deputy Chairperson of the Russia-China Friendship Association Galina Kulikova, as well as about 200 participants, including representatives of Russian and Chinese media and creative fields.

"Naturally, this evening attracted great interest from our Russian friends. Thanks to such events, Russians can get to know China better and understand the country's culture," Feng Litao said in an exclusive commentary to TV BRICS.

The evening was decorated with a musical programme. Artists from the Fuzhou opera (Fujian province) performed colourful numbers, immersing the guests in the atmosphere of a real Chinese celebration.

The event was jointly organised by the China Cultural Centre in Moscow and the Asia-Europe Bureau of Xinhua News Agency with the support of the Chinese Embassy in the Russian Federation.

The Chinese New Year was included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2024. In the same year, a large-scale celebration of the Chinese New Year was held in Moscow for the first time. The organisers of the gala evening in the CCC expressed hope that in 2025 even more Russians will be able to join Chinese culture and celebrate this bright event.
