Chinese scientists develop new cathode materials
Chinese scientists have developed a new cathode material for all-solid-state lithium batteries that could significantly increase their lifespan and improve their commercial appeal. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
All-solid-state lithium batteries, unlike conventional lithium-ion batteries, use solid electrolytes, which reduces the risk of leakage and fire. The new material has a thousand times greater electronic and ionic conductivity than conventional materials, simplifying the battery manufacturing process.
In addition, it retains 80 per cent of its original capacity even after 5,000 charge and discharge cycles, while traditional materials lose their capacity much faster.
All-solid-state lithium batteries are considered a next-generation energy storage technology that could play an important role in the development of electric vehicles and other industries, as well as help China achieve its carbon goals.
Their use will promote the development of green and low-carbon energy.
