Egypt is looking to join BRICS
Egypt is interested in joining BRICS and has already indicated its desire
Russia's Ambassador to Egypt, Georgy Borisenko, said Russia supports Egypt's steps to join BRICS, as reported in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"Egypt is also interested in joining BRICS and has already indicated this desire in official letters sent to all members of the group," said Borisenko.
Russian diplomat added that Moscow supports Cairo's application and will be satisfied with Egypt’s full entry into the BRICS.
"For this to happen, the rules and procedures of expansion need to be finally approved in the association. We hope this will happen soon," added Borisenko.
Apart from Egypt, a number of countries, including Argentina, Iran, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia are also interested in joining the organisation. Algeria had previously applied for full membership in BRICS.
Earlier, the Egyptian government announced that Cairo would join the New Development Bank of BRICS (NDB). Subsequently, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the relevant draft presidential decision.
