Gas transfer deal Russia-Iran leads to strengthen cooperation in energy security
Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali called the gas agreement between Iran and Russia a "mega-project", indicating the initiative predicts to bring out high-yielding benefits and long-lasting policies given the deal was adopted on terms benefiting both nations. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to the Iranian envoy, Iran's network has the potential to transfer 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas per day, highlighting the deal will cover Iran and the neighbouring countries' energy security needs while supplying Russia's economy.
Iran's Minister of Petroleum Java Owji also commented on how the deal will facilitate the gas imports from Russia.
"23 gas processing plants produce 850 million cubic meters of sweet gas per day. Additionally, the gas transfer project will significantly enhance the possibility of gas imports from Russia", explained the minister.
Iran and Russia signed a declaration in June this year for gas transfer from Russia to Iran, validating the mutual intention that has been on the agenda of both governments for quite some time.
