India accelerates AI innovation with US$57.35 million investment in centres of excellence

These AI hubs will equip students with cutting-edge skills to ensure their competitiveness in the evolving digital landscape

India is advancing its position as a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) with a significant investment in research and education, as reported by IANS, a partner of TV BRICS. Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced the establishment of three Centres of Excellence (CoEs) dedicated to AI.

With a budget allocation of US$57.35, the initiative is designed to enhance AI research, develop advanced learning tools, and foster collaboration between educational institutions and industry leaders. These AI hubs will equip students with cutting-edge skills to ensure their competitiveness in the evolving digital landscape.

The CoEs will collaborate with leading universities, research institutions, and industry stakeholders to develop AI-driven models tailored to educational needs. This includes personalised learning platforms, automated assessments, and AI-based tutoring systems that will revolutionise the student learning experience.

In addition to these developments, India is set to unveil its own secure and cost-effective indigenous AI model within the next six months.

Supported by a high-end computing infrastructure, the initiative is focused on creating AI systems that are optimised for local contexts and available in multiple Indian languages.

Furthermore, the government has announced the expansion of infrastructure at five Indian Institutes of Technology to provide additional academic and hostel facilities, accommodating 6,500 more students.
