India agrees on a collaborative approach in AI for healthcare and agriculture

Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence summit concludes in New Delhi

Member countries of the Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) today agreed to jointly develop applications for the health and agriculture sectors.

In the final declaration of the organisation's summit, which concludes in India on Thursday, representatives from 29 countries agreed to include the needs of developing nations in the goals related to the development of artificial intelligence (AI).

Speaking to correspondents, Indian Minister of State for Indian Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar stressed that GPAI will be the centre of shaping the future of AI in terms of innovation and collaboration among partner countries to create applications in healthcare, agriculture and other areas.

According to the document, the organisation should focus on countries in the global south and make the benefits of platforms and solutions available to all people in the world, he added.

The Minister of State also expressed India's willingness to host a partnership governance summit to finalise a common framework and principles to ensure safe and secure AI.

The three-day event brings together Indian and foreign AI experts to update the international community on the progress of research in the sector.

The event has organised multiple sessions on the use of AI in global healthcare, education, creativity, data management and other areas, and an exhibition of over 150 Indian startups and student initiatives. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
