Iran’s national futsal team has been crowned champion of Asia after a final at the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup, defeating host nation Indonesia 5–4 on penalties following a draw in regular and extra time.
According to Iran Press, a partner of TV BRICS, Iran opened the scoring through Hossein Tayebi, but Indonesia responded with a rapid surge, netting three goals in just two minutes to take control of the first half. Iran reduced the deficit before the break, trailing narrowly at 3–2.
The second half saw Iran regain momentum early, equalising soon after the restart. With just minutes remaining, Iran levelled the score to force extra time after a tense 4–4 draw at the end of regulation.
Neither side managed to score in the first period of extra time. Indonesia then struck late in the second period. However, Iran produced a last-gasp equaliser seconds before the final whistle, sending the match to penalties.
According to the source, the final underscored Iran’s long-standing role in Asian futsal and highlighted Indonesia’s emergence as a rising force in the sport.
