Iran is in the world's top ten steel producers

According to the World Steel Association, the country is 9th in the ranking

According to the latest data from the World Steel Association (WSA), Iran has improved its position on the international stage in steel production in January 2024, becoming the ninth largest producer of the metal.

The total output of Iran's steel mills in the first month of 2024 was 2,6 million tonnes of steel, a 39,3% increase over the same period in 2023.

A total of 148,1 million tonnes of steel was produced by 71 countries in January 2024, showing a decline of 1,6% compared to the same period a year earlier. It is important to note that Iran surpassed other world leaders in terms of steel production growth in the period. This is reported by Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

Iran ranks ninth among the largest steel producers, behind only China, India, Japan, the United States, Russia, South Korea, Turkey and Germany. Iran's steel production continues to show continuous growth, increasing from 30,6 million tonnes in 2022 to 31,1 million tonnes in 2023, indicating the continuous development of this industry with a growth rate of 1,8%.

Steel is a ductile alloy of iron with carbon and other alloying elements. It is used for the manufacture of rolled metal products, utensils, medical instruments, machinery and various parts for industry.
