Kazakhstan and Russia are preparing to simplify tourism procedures in areas surrounding Mount Belukha, a major destination for mountain travel. The initiative is being developed by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports to strengthen cooperation between border regions, reports Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.
Mount Belukha, located in the Altai mountain system on the border of the two countries, is the highest peak in Siberia and a UNESCO-listed natural site. Known for its glaciers, alpine landscapes, and biodiversity, it attracts climbers, trekkers, and eco-tourists from across the world.
The draft agreement has been published for public consultation on the government's portal until 1 May 2026. It outlines measures to streamline tourist exchanges and improve coordination across the shared border.
The proposal covers territories adjacent to the mountain, which are popular for trekking and nature tourism. Authorities expect the simplified procedures to improve accessibility and encourage more visitors.
According to the ministry, the initiative will contribute to the growth of mountain tourism and unlock additional tourism potential in both countries, while supporting regional development.
