Restoration of two Citadel towers completes in Egypt
Two towers of the Saladin Citadel, one of Cairo's most famous landmarks, have been opened to the public following restoration work.
Ahmed Issa, Egypt's tourism minister, said at the opening ceremony that expanding the Citadel's tour route to three hours will increase the number of nights tourists spend in Cairo. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, added that tourists will be able to visit the Ramla and Al-Haddad towers with a single entrance ticket.
The restoration work included cleaning and replacing stones, reconstructing staircases and floors and building walls to ensure safety.
The Ramla Tower is 20.8 metres tall and Al-Haddad is one of the largest towers of the Citadel. It served as the residence of Egypt's rulers for 700 years.
