Russia's oldest university, SPbU, and TV BRICS to work together to raise prestige of Russian education in BRICS+ countries
TV BRICS International Media Network will be an international media partner of St. Petersburg University (SPbU), which will celebrate its 300th anniversary in 2024. The relevant cooperation document was signed on the margins of the 27th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum by CEO of the TV BRICS International Media Network Janna Tolstikova and Elena Chernova, First Vice Rector of St. Petersburg University.
The cooperation between the partners is aimed at strengthening international cooperation, promoting Russia's achievements in education and science in the BRICS+ media space, and strengthening professional ties with the expert community of foreign countries.
TV BRICS and St. Petersburg University agreed to jointly implement projects aimed at promoting the Russian language and raising the prestige of Russian education, to create cultural and humanitarian programmes, to assist each other in holding events, including scientific conferences, round tables, and seminars, and to cooperate with leading experts from BRICS+ countries in order to exchange experience.
St. Petersburg University is the oldest and one of the largest universities in Russia, founded in 1724 by decree of Peter the Great. Today, it is a scientific and educational centre of global significance and holds high positions in international rankings.
SPbU has more than 27 thousand students from 120 countries, more than 500 basic education programmes, and about 800 additional educational programmes. Young researchers and scientists of world renown realise their breakthrough projects and do science here.
According to Elena Chernova, First Vice Rector of St. Petersburg University, today SPbU pays great attention to the development of international cooperation and the promotion of the Russian language and Russian culture abroad. For example, in September 2023, with the support of the government and the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the SPbU Online School was launched.
This unique project allows Russian-speaking schoolchildren from all over the world to get a full-fledged, quality education in Russia and enter the best universities in the country.

Janna Tolstikova, CEO of the TV BRICS International Media Network, said that today more than 30 higher education institutions in Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa, including participants of the BRICS Network University, as well as the Ministry of Education of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba, and the Ministry of Education of Cuba, are partners of the media network.

TV BRICS acts as an international media partner for many major events organised under the auspices of universities from different countries: the Youth Forum “Culture Code” of SPbU and the Kostomarov Forum of the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute (Russia), the Postgraduate Forum of the Durban University of Technology (South Africa), and the BRICS Documentary Film Festival of the Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA) (Brazil). It also conducts teleconferences through her own outreach project, “Modern Russian” with Jawaharlal Nehru University (India).
