South Africa and Ethiopia to consider establishing joint fund for innovative research

Ethiopia's Minister of Innovation and Technology Baisa Bedada met with his South African counterpart Blade Nzimande. This is reported by Fana Broadcasting Corporate, a partner of TV BRICS.

The two sides discussed cooperation and the implementation of joint initiatives in the field of high technology, including within the framework of the relevant agreement concluded earlier between the two states.

Baisa Bedada noted South Africa's successes in science and innovative research, industrial growth and human capital development.

In turn, the representative of South Africa expressed Pretoria's readiness to transfer to international partners advanced developments in such areas as space exploration and development, artificial intelligence and nanotechnology.

The implementation of the African Union Agenda 2063 was also the subject of the talks. The ministers drew attention to the need for coordinated action by the continent's countries in the development and implementation of new technologies and training, and emphasised the importance of developing their own scientific competences and production capacities.

In addition, the parties agreed to consider the possibility of creating their own joint fund of African states, which would allow joint work in critical innovation sectors.
