TV BRICS and CGTN present a joint media project on the eve of the “One Belt, One Road” forum

Experts from China, Russia and other countries shared their views on the development of cooperation within the framework of the same name Chinese initiative

TV BRICS International Media Network and CGTN will present a joint media project timed to coincide with the third forum of international cooperation "One Belt, One Road". The premiere will take place on 18 October on CGTN air, as well as on the website and social networks. The programme will also be available on the Russian and English versions of the TV BRICS website.

Experts from China, Russia and other countries shared their views on the development of cooperation within the framework of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

The speakers of the programme were Dmitry Birichevsky, Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation; Vitaly Mankevich, President of The Russian-Asian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs; Fabio Borges, Coordinator of the BRICS Observation Project at the Federal University for Latin American Integration (Brazil); Wang Huiyao, founder and president of Beijing-based think tank Center for China and Globalization, former counselor at China State Council; Gao Zhikai, deputy director of the Center for China and Globalization and professor at Soochow University; and Chris Devonshire-Ellis, Publisher of Silk Road Briefing.

As part of a new joint project, the invited experts assessed current trends in the global economy and the role of the Greater Eurasian Partnership (GEP) in this process, discussed how Russia and China can combine the development plans of the Eurasian Economic Union with China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative to further develop bilateral ties, and how important relations with the "five" partners are becoming in the light of the fact that the BRICS countries will become the G20's governing troika.

Dmitry Birichevsky, Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, mentioned that the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Eurasian Partnership allow linking various centres in the Greater Eurasian Continent and beyond and it is important to build up pragmatic mutually beneficial economic cooperation on an equal basis.

"The idea of forming the Greater Eurasian Partnership (GEP) was initially aimed at connecting various regional platforms, including regional international organisations. This is the EAEU as a center of attraction, this is the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and of course ASEAN. And I will emphasise that the GEP is not only open to the countries of the continent. And if our partners, our friends in Latin America and Africa share the principles of equality, mutual benefit, voluntariness, the principle of consensus, then, generally, everyone can easily join this initiative. And the Eurasian Economic Union has the appropriate tools, opportunities, and works with those who are interested in this”

Dmitry Birichevsky Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

On 17 October, Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in the "One Belt, One Road" forum in Beijing. The Chinese side expects that this will make an important contribution to the forum, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The media network will cover the upcoming forum on its resources together with Chinese partners. Text and video materials will be presented on the TV BRICS website and social networks.

TV BRICS has a rich experience of cooperation with CGTN - the media organisations prepared a joint project for the 2023 BRICS Summit "Point of View". The special programme was attended by leading experts from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. They highlighted the prospects of BRICS development and the role of the association in the global economic order. Leading experts in the field of international relations, economics and politics shared their opinions in interviews with TV BRICS partners.

In addition, in 2022, TV BRICS and CCTV (along with CGTN is part of China Media Group) presented the programme "Time to Talk. Russia - China." The guests of the studio told the presenter of the project, Daria Ivankova, a sinologist and Head of International Projects of TV BRICS, about the experience of interaction between the two countries in various spheres.
