TV BRICS to present new documentary project on modern image of China’s capital to global audience

The premiere of the film about Beijing, a city of the future with a rich history, will take place in December on the TV BRICS channel in Russia

The TV BRICS International Media Network, in partnership with the information platform China Daily and the Information Office of Beijing Municipality, will present the documentary film “Charming Beijing!” about China’s largest political, cultural, educational, and transport centre.

The premiere screening is scheduled for 16 December 2025 at 10:45, 15:15, and 21:00 Moscow time on the Russian-language TV BRICS channel. Repeat broadcasts will take place on 21 December at 15:00 and 21:00 (Moscow time). After the screening in Russia, the film will be adapted into foreign languages and presented to audiences in BRICS+ countries on the multilingual portal of TV BRICS.

The film tells the story of modern Beijing as a megacity that has become a global centre of international cooperation, economy, innovation and culture, while carefully preserving its history. The author of the film takes on the role of a traveller-researcher, revealing the city from an unexpected perspective through the lives of different people.

The main idea of the film is to show how history and the future coexist within a single megacity. To achieve this, we chose the metaphor of a river: it became our main narrative device and visual leitmotif. Its flow connects traditional hutongs and skyscrapers, craft workshops, and technology parks. The film is our journey along this river of time, wherein every meeting and every interview we tried to capture how an individual resident’s personal choice flows into the common stream, creating today’s vibrant and charming Beijing

TV BRICS is developing cooperation with national media of BRICS+ countries in the field of joint media production, releasing international television and film projects created with the participation of the media network’s partners. Previously, a co-project by TV BRICS and Heilongjiang Broadcasting (Heilongjiang Province Omnimedia Centre), "Heilongjiang: sustainable economic development zone", about the Chinese economic miracle – the opening of a pilot free trade zone in the province – was presented to a global audience. To mark the 200th anniversary of Fyodor Dostoevsky, TV BRICS, together with leading media from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, implemented the first international documentary project in the group’s history, “Dostoevsky Intercontinental".

In addition, the editorial team of the media network regularly produces its own country-focused documentary projects about BRICS+ countries. For example, the TV BRICS team previously prepared two seasons of the television project “City of Stories” about small towns in Central Russia, which was subsequently broadcast in various foreign countries by the media network’s partners.
