Vietnam fruit and vegetable exports surge more than 16% in early 2026
Strong overseas demand drives US$2.67 billion horticultural trade as sector maintains solid surplus amid steady monthly performance
Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports recorded a sharp increase of more than 16 per cent year-on-year in the first five months of 2026, reaching a total value of approximately US$2.67 billion, according to Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
The growth reflects sustained international demand for Vietnamese horticultural products, with major export flows directed towards established markets in East Asia. At the same time, several Southeast Asian destinations registered notable expansion, contributing to the overall upward trend.
Trade data also indicates that Vietnam imported nearly US$1.3 billion worth of fruit and vegetable products during the same period, resulting in a trade surplus of around US$1.37 billion for the sector. This underscores the continued strength of the country’s agricultural export base despite rising global market competition.
In May alone, the value of fruit and vegetable exports was estimated at approximately US$614.79 million, remaining broadly stable compared with the same month in the previous year. This suggests a steady performance in the sector following strong cumulative growth earlier in the year.
Overall, Vietnam’s horticultural industry continues to consolidate its position in global agricultural trade, supported by sustained demand for fresh produce.
