Xi Jinping and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva hold talks in Beijing
The meeting took place at the Great Hall of the People on Friday 14 April
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was received by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The welcoming ceremony took place outdoors at the Tiananmen Square, as reported by CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.
At the meeting, Xi Jinping stressed that Sino-Brazilian relations are a priority of Chinese diplomacy. He assured the Brazilian president that China is building multilateral partnerships with the South American republic from a strategic position.
The Brazilian government has announced the signing of 15 agreements between the two countries, with investments in Brazil projected at around 50 billion reais (about $10.2 billion).
Notable among the agreements are memoranda of understanding between China's Ministry of Finance and Brazil's Ministry of Finance focused on infrastructure development and public-private partnerships, as well as a protocol establishing a Sino-Brazilian partnership in the production and operation of CBERS-6 satellites.
Lula was due to travel to China at the end of March, but the meeting had to be postponed due to pneumonia. This is Lula's fourth international visit since taking office.
"The fact that Lula is leading a large delegation to China on his state visit so soon after his recovery, shows the great importance that both sides attach to this trip and our bilateral relations," said Wang Wenbin, a Chinese Foreign Ministry official.
Vitaly Danilov, director of the Centre for Applied Analysis of International Transformation at the RUDN, candidate of historical sciences, described the Brazilian president's visit to Beijing as an historical event.
He stressed that with the appointment of Dilma Rousseff as head of the NDB BRICS, the economic situation both in Brazil and in all BRICS countries will improve at a rapid pace.

In 2022, China imported more than $89.7 billion worth of Brazilian products, especially soybeans and ore, and exported nearly $60.7 billion domestically. The trade volume, worth USD 150.4 billion, has increased 21 times since Lula's first visit to the country in 2004.
