ASEAN countries adopt 14 priority initiatives

It demonstrates the determination of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to actively promote economic co-operation

The proposed measures aim to rebuild and unify the region's economies, create an inclusive and sustainable future and boost digital transformation.

The programme was adopted at the 30th ASEAN Finance Ministers' Meeting held in the Lao city of Luang Prabang on the 8th and 9th of this month. Priorities for 2024 were also set.

Among the priorities, trade in goods and services is emphasised. A framework programme on trade facilitation was approved, while investment, finance, intellectual property and e-commerce were also addressed. The meeting also discussed improving existing agreements on ASEAN Trade in Goods (ATIGA) and Digital Economy (DEFA). This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the ASEAN Secretariat released during the ministerial meeting, the association's gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to grow by 4.7 per cent in 2023, 3.1 percentage points higher than the global average.
