Brazilian ambassador to Malaysia: interest in joining BRICS is strategic economic decision of Malaysia
Malaysia’s interest in joining the BRICS group of emerging economies is a strategic economic decision, says Ary Quintella, Brazil’s ambassador to Malaysia. This is reported by Bernama.
The ambassador also addressed the notion that BRICS membership was essential for trade between member countries.
"I believe that BRICS helps in making your voice heard. Being a BRICS member makes you able to convey your voice more effectively," he added.
Earlier, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that the country had sent Russia an application to join BRICS. According to him, this would have "significant potential for both countries". Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in turn, said that Russia, as BRICS chairman country, would promote Malaysia's interest in partnership in the group.
