Egypt emerges winner at XVI African Swimming and Open Water Swimming Championships

Egypt won 50 medals

The swimming competition has concluded in Angola with Egypt emerging as the winner. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

South Africa, the runner-up, will return home with the award for the best women's team as well as the best individual performances, determined by the number of points in the competition, for swimmers Lara Van Niekerk and Chris Mikhailov.

The top medallists were Egypt's Lojine Hamed and Algeria's Jaouad Syoud.

Egypt won 50 medals (17 gold, 19 silver and 14 bronze) while South Africa was second with 41 medals (13-16-12).

Algeria was third (25 medals, 9-5-11) and the host country, Angola, finished eighth.

At the ceremony held in the presence of the newly elected President of the African Swimming Confederation (CANA), Mohamed Diop.

Speaking on Angola's Public Television, congratulated the athletes and thanked the country's authorities and all those who worked to organise the competition, which he described as satisfactory.
