Ethiopia and Azerbaijan discuss strengthening co-operation against climate challenges

The discussion took place ahead of the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan

In a significant meeting, House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) Speaker Tagesse Chafo, and a high-level delegation from Azerbaijan, led by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mukhtar Babayev, discussed strengthening bilateral and multilateral co-operation to tackle global climate challenges, as reported by Fana Broadcasting Corporate.

Tagesse Chafo emphasised the importance of concrete action and international collaboration, including the sharing of experiences and the delivery of promised climate finance. He also emphasised the need to strengthen early warning systems to increase resilience against climate-related disasters.

Minister Mukhtar Babayev expressed Azerbaijan's desire to learn from Ethiopia's experience and emphasised the importance of regional and global cooperation in tackling climate challenges.

The symbolic tree-planting ceremony held by the delegations underlined the joint commitment of both countries to environmental protection and climate action, reinforcing the partnership between Ethiopia and Azerbaijan for a more resilient future.
