India's tourism and hospitality sector expects to create 6.1 million new jobs by 2034

This was stated in a report which was presented by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and EY at the 18th Annual CII Tourism Summit

Tourism currently accounts for about 8 per cent of total employment in the country. Spending in this sector is projected to increase 1.2 times by 2034, leading to demand for an additional 6.1 million workers, of which 4.6 million will be men and 1.5 million women.

To meet growing demand, the CII-EY report calls for the need for modern skills such as digital marketing, sustainable tourism and customer service. This is reported by IANS, a partner of TV BRICS.

It recommends the creation of a central tourism and hospitality authority to streamline management and improve operational efficiency. In line with global trends, the report highlights the importance of integrating digital public infrastructure to position India as a creative tourism hub.

The report also introduces the Tourism Employment Index (TEI) to analyse employment dynamics in greater depth.

It explores how the flexible economy can be used to deliver quality services at seasonal peaks, while emphasising community needs and youth preferences as key factors in creating a more inclusive and innovative working environment.
