India thinks of mandating use of USB-C charging ports on all smartphones and laptops by 2026
Expected to have a positive impact on environmental sustainability by reducing e-waste
India is set to introduce a new rule mandating the use of USB-C connectors on all smartphones and laptops by 2026. The initiative comes in line with international efforts to standardise charging methods and reduce e-waste.
Smartphone manufacturers must be USB-C compliant by June 2025 and laptops must be equipped with USB-C charging ports by the end of 2026.
The aim is to simplify the user experience by ensuring that all compatible devices use a universal charging cable, reducing the need for proprietary chargers and cables. This is reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
The move is expected to extend beyond smartphones to a variety of devices such as tablets and laptops.
Industry leaders have reportedly participated in the discussion and expressed their support for the upcoming regulation.
It is also expected to have a positive impact on environmental sustainability by reducing e-waste from outdated charging methods.
