Iranian hospital pioneers advance angiography technology for invasive brain treatment

The new technology expands lifesaving treatments

A hospital in Iran has adopted an angiography technology to treat brain vascular conditions, eliminating the need for skull-opening procedures and offering a less invasive solution. This breakthrough offers a safer, less traumatic alternative for patients suffering from cerebrovascular disorders.

Tehran’s hospital now utilises next-generation angiography systems to address brain artery blockages without requiring general anaesthesia or traditional open surgery. As reported by Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS, ageing populations frequently encounter vascular complications that were once treatable only through high-risk surgical interventions.

Mahrou Taherpour, who leads the Cardiac Angiography and Post-Cath unit at hospital, pointed out that the new, small, high-quality system allows us to treat brain blood vessel problems without needing to perform open-brain surgery, which was necessary with older techniques. Previously, brain vessel blockages required invasive surgery, but now we can treat them without skull incisions, drastically cutting risks and recovery time, she explained.
