Masoud Pezeshkian celebrates his 70th birthday
This is the first anniversary celebrated by Masoud Pezeshkian as the head of the state.
Masoud Pezeshkian was born in the city of Mahabad in West Azarbaijan Province, northwest Iran. A cardiac surgeon by training, Pezeshkian formerly occupied the rector's post at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. He also previously served as health minister in the administration of former President Mohammad Khatami. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
Masoud Pezeshkian had already run for the presidency in 2013 and 2021. Eventually, the politician took office as Iranian President after taking the oath of office on July 30, 2024.
Prior to this, Iran held two rounds of extraordinary presidential elections. Pezeshkian won 16.384 million votes, 53.6 per cent of the total, and became the 9th elected president in the history of modern Iran.
In accordance with the Iranian constitution, the elected head of state will be in office for four years – until 2028.
