Putin meets Egypt’s Foreign Minister at Kremlin and says he has instructed work on grain supplies to republic

Egypt’s Foreign Minister personally delivered a written message to Putin from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi

President of Russia Vladimir Putin met in the Kremlin with Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty. The Russian president said that, following a telephone conversation with President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, he had instructed the government to work with Egyptian colleagues on the supply of food products to Egypt, primarily grain.

We have many good plans; much is already being implemented. As I have said before, processes are ongoing, including the construction of the nuclear power plant and the industrial zone project. More than ten major Russian companies have already expressed their readiness to operate in this zone. But there are many other considerations. We can also discuss the creation of a grain and energy hub in Egypt. [...] I have instructed the government to work with Egyptian colleagues on the supply of food products to Egypt, above all our grain

The head of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry conveyed greetings from President El-Sisi to the Russian president and handed over a written message.

We are grateful to you for our constructive cooperation on the construction of the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, which is a key milestone in our interaction. Despite all the challenges, we see that, thanks to your support, this project is being implemented. The President highly appreciates your contribution and your support for its realisation. [...] You also spoke about the creation of an energy and grain hub in Egypt. We also highly value these initiatives. We very much hope that Egypt will become such a grain hub, as well as a centre for energy products

Putin and the President of Egypt held a telephone conversation on 31 March. On Thursday, at the meeting in the Kremlin, the Russian side was also represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov and Aide to the Russian President Yury Ushakov, while the Egyptian side included Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Egypt to Russia Hamdy Shaaban.

A Russia–Africa summit is scheduled for October this year. Putin expressed hope that Egypt would be represented by a high-level delegation and invited President El-Sisi to Moscow. Badr Abdelatty confirmed Egypt’s participation in the summit and said that, if possible, the President of Egypt would attend.
