Russia announces plans to create BRICS and SCO university alliances

The Russian Union of Rectors intends to create alliances of universities of the BRICS countries and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). This was announced by the chairman of the union, rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy.

"In October 2024, on the eve of the BRICS summit, the Moscow university will host the BRICS University Rectors Forum for the first time. In the future, we plan to create an alliance of universities from the countries of the association," he said during a speech at the Universities and the Future forum.

Sadovnichy noted that co-operation between the Russian Union of Rectors and the Moscow State University with scientific institutions of the SCO countries is already actively developing, especially in China and Central Asian states. One of the formats of interaction is the University of Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
