Vietnam City wastewater treatment project is scheduled for completion in 2025

The project will improve sanitation and wastewater management practices

Construction of Southeast Asia's largest wastewater treatment plant in Ho Chi Minh City is 41 per cent complete and is expected to be operational by June next year. The US$524 million project is part of the city's environmental sanitation project and will treat wastewater currently discharged into the Saigon River.

Using advanced technology, the plant will be able to remove organic matter from the wastewater. The reactor is filled with biofilm carriers that protect the bacteria that break down pollutants. This is reported by Vietnam News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

Once operational, the plant will be able to treat 480,000 cubic metres of wastewater per day, significantly increasing the city's wastewater treatment capacity.

The project will reach about two million people in several neighbourhoods in Ho Chi Minh City and improve sanitation and wastewater management practices.
