China constructs giant power plants to store energy
A giant power plant for energy storage is being built in the Ulan Buh Desert, one of the largest in China.
This project, with a total capacity of 605,000 kW, is one of the largest in the country. It will be used to stabilise the electricity supply from a solar power plant that is also being built in the region. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
The project has an investment of 2.1 billion yuan, and the power plant is expected to be operational by the end of the year.
In addition to generating clean energy, the project contributes to combating desertification and improving the environmental situation in the region.
The solar power plant will be capable of generating up to 3.16 billion kWh of electricity per year and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 2.75 million metric tonnes. It will also help restore the environment on an area of about 2,973 hectares of sand.
The Ulan Buh Desert has great potential for solar energy development due to its long sunshine (more than 3,000 hours per year).
