Ethiopia opens performing arts centre named after national composer Ashenafi Kebede
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has inaugurated the Ashenafi Kebede Performing Arts Centre built by Addis Ababa University in Yared School of Music. The politician said a lot of work will be needed to popularise the country's historical and cultural wealth. This is reported by ENA.
The Yared School of Music is contributing immensely to Ethiopia's history and cultures in other countries, Abiy Ahmed emphasised.
The institution is named in honour of renowned contemporary Ethiopian music performer, composer, conductor, historical musicologist, music educator, writer and poet Professor Ashenafi Kebede.
He was born in Addis Ababa in 1938. Kebede combined Ethiopian and Asian motifs in his compositions.
