Ethiopia's Five Million Coders Initiative empowers 360,000 youth in digital skills

The initiative launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates

The "Five Million Ethiopian Coders" initiative has engaged 360,000 young participants across Ethiopia, marking significant progress in the country's digital transformation journey, as reported by ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.

Spearheaded by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MInT), the programme seeks to equip five million Ethiopian youth with vital coding skills over three years, fostering digital literacy and enhancing job prospects.

Launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates, the initiative offers training in fields such as web programming, artificial intelligence, and data science. With the slogan "Let a generation learn, let a generation train, compete with the world," the programme aims to empower a new wave of tech-savvy professionals prepared to compete globally.

According to State Minister of Innovation and Technology Yeshurun Alemayehu, the initiative is meticulously monitored with targets set for regional and city administrations.

To date, 78,800 participants have successfully earned certifications, paving the way for careers in both local and international technology sectors.
