Iran's salt mines to become tourist attractions

Medical tourism to be developed in caves with stalactites

The authorities of the Iranian city of Garmsar plan to create health tourism centres in salt mines. This is reported by the Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

Garmsar Governor Ali Hemmati said the project would create new jobs and diversify the local economy.

According to Head of Garmsar Cultural Heritage Department Milad Rezaei, projects to attract visitors have already been launched. The government is actively supporting travel agencies, and documentary films about tourist attractions are being shot.

Garmsar is known for the largest salt tunnels in Central Asia, of which there are about forty in the region. The walls of these caves, especially in the depths, are brightly lit and decorated with stalactites.
