Brazil sets new records for wind power generation in favour of renewable energy transition

Brazil has achieved remarkable milestones in wind energy production, setting two consecutive records. The country recorded a peak hourly average generation of 23,699 MW, followed by a daily average record of 18,976 MW the next day. 

These figures, released by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, underscore wind energy's growing prominence in Brazil's energy mix.

According to the ministry, these achievements highlight the critical role of wind power in diversifying the nation's energy matrix and advancing its sustainability goals. Favourable weather conditions and ongoing expansion of wind farms, particularly in the Northeast region, have significantly contributed to this success.

The ministry also noted that supportive public policies for renewable technologies have been instrumental, not only in driving wind power growth but also in attracting investment, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and generating employment.

Currently, Brazil's wind energy capacity stands at approximately 33 GW, accounting for around 13.5 per cent of its electricity mix. This is reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.

By alleviating pressure on hydropower reservoirs during dry spells, wind power has reinforced Brazil's position as a global leader in renewable energy.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy emphasised that wind energy is "an inexhaustible source of sustainable progress," reaffirming Brazil's commitment to global energy transition goals.
